Fixion IL Nailing System

The Fixion IL (Interlocking) Nails combine interlocking screw holes for accommodating interlocking screws at the proximal end of the nail, and a unique ability to be expanded, providing optimal contact with the medullary canal. This design is indicated when fractures are close to the proximal or distal segments of the bone and for comminuted fractures.

F
EATURES

  • Expanded within the medullary canal with saline solution.

  • Inserted in a reduced diameter.

  • Adapts itself to the contours of the medullary canal (hour-glass shape).

  • Fixation is achieved along the entire length of the nail. Perfect positioning at fracture site.

  • Minimally invasive procedure.

  • Minimized fluoroscopy exposure.

  • Reduced procedure time.

  • Less skin and tissue dissection.

  • As the nail adapts to the intramedullary canal shape and diameter, a homogeneous fixation of the fracture is achieved and there are no transverse movements at the fracture site.

  • Immediate axial load transfer between the fracture fragments contributes to faster callus formation.

  • Various screw options are available for the Fixion IL Humeral Nail  (dynamic, static, oblique and AP to eliminate relative movements between the nail and the fracture's fragments).

  • In humeral procedures, reduced possibility of damaging the rotator cuff.

  • For humeral procedures, due to its geometry and reduced diameter, the same nail may be implanted in antegrade and retrograde approaches.

  • For the Fixion IL Femoral Retrograde Nail, implantation of a short implant does not interfere with the usage of a hip prosthesis.

  • For the treatment of periprothesis femoral knee fractures, the Fixion IL Femoral Retrograde nail’s flexibility and reduced insertion diameter, together with specially designed bending at the nail’s proximal end, enable introduction of the nail via the intercondylar box area of the knee prosthesis.

  • Reduced inventory, as expansion enables the covering of a range of medullary canal diameters.

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

  • Nail is supplied sterile, in a reduced diameter configuration.

  • Nail is inserted utilizing the handle.

  • Once in position, the nail is expanded to its intended diameter through inflation with saline solution, utilizing the pump.

  • Interlocking screws are inserted using the handle and provided instrumentation.

  • Excellent fixation is achieved through the attachment of the four longitudinal bars of the nail to the inner wall of the medullary cavity and by means of the interlocking screws.

INDICATIONS

  • Acute fractures, even of short distal (humerus and femur) or proximal (humerus and tibia) fragments. Very short segment fractures with an intraarticular component.

  • Osteotomy.

  • Long bone reconstruction following tumor resection and grafting and prophylactic nailing of impending pathological fractures.

  • Revision procedures where other treatments and devices have failed.

  • Nonunions and malunions.

  • Pathological fractures.
